Dr Mark McGranaghan

Mark joined the MARA programme in October 2012, as a post-doctoral researcher at the Rock Art Research Institute, University of the Witwatersrand. He received his doctorate from the University of Oxford in June 2012, an historical ethnography of the ǀXam Bushmen of the Northern Cape in the nineteenth century. His research interests include the interaction of hunter-gatherers with farmers and pastoralists, historical archaeology of the Northern Cape, and role of oral narrative in enforcing socio-cultural norms in putatively ‘egalitarian’ hunter-gatherer groups.
